The Dean Harrel Trophy is offered in competition as a perpetual trophy of the Los Angeles Yacht Club George Griffith Series. The trophy shall be awarded to the female skipper with the best overall series score for the PHRF class. To qualify for the trophy, the female skipper must be at the helm at least 75% of the time including at the start, each mark rounding and the finish. This trophy was created around the ship’s compass from yacht Medley that Dean Harrel twice raced in the Transpac. After the second race, he continued on her to cruise the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. This fully-working compass is laid onto a block of rare 200-year-old Brazilian Tulip Wood.
