Rick Olson: Historical Wooden Boat Jamboree
This year, in cooperation with the Wooden Hull Yacht Club and the Maritime Preservation Trust, LAYC and Classic Yacht Association (CYA) hosted the first Historical Wooden Boat Jamboree! Participants gathered at Howland’s Landing to enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship of these fine vessels, and the joy of being out on the water in them. Speaker Rick Olson started boating at the tender age of 3 at his grandfathers camp on Lake Superior. His professional career began with Toyota Motors USA, and then he became an independent garage owner for 33 years. Rick worked on race production cars with Sports Car Club of America for 25 years, but put the cars away for good when he bought his first boat in 1993. He’s owned five boats in last 20 years, and in 2013, Rick and his wife Elissa purchased ONO from LAYC members John and Vickie Franck. Rick joined CYA in 1996, was CYA fleet commodore in 2012 and CYA international Commodore in 2017. He enjoys photography, and has written a beautiful 360 page picture book on classic yachts.
