We are Zooming tradition into the future. Please join us Wednesday, May 5th, 2021, at 12:30 PM via Zoom.
This week we will hear from Amber Sparks and Emily Hazelwood, co-Presidents of the Blue Latitudes Foundation, a 501(c)3non-profit organization on a mission to elevate the traditional concept of ocean stewardship by uniting government, industry and the community to work together to conserve our oceans! In doing so, this foundation strives to explore innovative solutions to traditional marine conservation challenges.
Amber and Emily will be speaking to us on an important issue found outside of our port, on California’s offshore oil and gas platforms. These platforms have developed into some of the most productive ecosystems on this planet, and the duo will be presenting on the ecological, economic, and social implications surrounding their impending decommissioning.
Amber and Emily are marine scientists, educators, and entrepreneurs. They both have M.A.S degrees in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and were recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the energy sector in 2018 for their work developing sustainable, creative, and cost-effective solutions for the environmental issues that surround the offshore energy industry.
