Virtual Wednesday Lunch – Chitra Martin – August 12, 2020

Please join us Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 12:30 PM via Zoom for a talk titled:

‘The phenomenon that was J M W Turner’  – British Artist 1775 to 1851

Our speaker will be Ms. Chitra Martin. She will be discussing artworks by Joseph Mallord William Turner who was an avid sailor and lover of the sea. She will focus on Turner’s unparalleled contribution to changing the way the world looks at art today.

Chitra moved to Los Angeles, from Mumbai, eleven years ago. Her training as a youngster in Indian Classical Dance and Aesthetics later led to a lifelong interest in every aspect of art, both Indian and global. Textiles, paintings, design, iconography, and mythology are constantly being re-examined by her unquenchable thirst for a depth of meaning and a search for universal interconnectedness, aspects of creativity that drive her to constantly research and study all things deemed art.

As a Docent at the Getty Center, Los Angeles, Chitra guides school groups as part of the unique Getty initiative that gives children from the LAUSD schools an opportunity to gain access to art, via an eclectic experience called “A Closer Look”.
