From Mr. Bill Wright: ____________________________________________________________________________ Invitation: All LAYC members and other hangers on are cordially invited to libations aboard the American Yacht, Siwash on Saturday, 30 July, 2010, at Howland's Cove to celebrate her 100th birthday. Siwash has been in the Wright family for all but the first of her 100 years. My great-grandad, Walter Savage Wright bought Siwash in 1911 and gave her to my granddad, Howard Walter Wright as a graduation present from high school. Grandad raced her extensively. Siwash held the record around Catalina Island for some 25 years (1912-1937). Over the years, Grandad changed the original gaff-headed sloop rig to a gaff-headed yawl, to the "new" Marconi yawl rig (designed in 1936 by an upstart shipwright, named Olin Stephens). Grandad sold Siwash to my dad, Howard Walter Wright Jr. in 1959 for 1 dollar. Mom and Dad replaced all the rot and redesigned the cabin. They raised their three sons on Siwash from then until 1977, when they sold Siwash to their oldest son, Howard, for $1. Howard sailed Siwash in San Francisco Bay during the late 70's including some memorable "ancient mariners" races. Brother Howard handed the boat over to me in the early 80's. I've had the pleasure of ownership ever since. Remember. Saturday 30 July afternoon. We will let the sun get just a little over the yard-arm before doling out libations on Siwash's foredeck, mooring B-3. Hope to see you all. Bill Wright
